Portrait of Daphne Marjorie Bourke, inscribed and dated 1909
English school, pastels on fawn paper, 75 x 62cm, inscribed for June, her mother, aged 12 years in 1907. Good condition, very slight spotting on left side, framed and glazed
A very attractive, typical Edwardian portrait of Daphne Fortescue née Bourke (1895–1962) as a child. Daphne Marjorie Bourke married John G Fortescue in 1917, June Fortescue was her daughter. Daphne’s grandfather was the Earl of Mayo and her husband was one of the Fortescues of Boconnoc, the historic estate in Cornwall where the family has lived since the 19th century, preceded in the ownership by the Pitt political family.
