This wonderful early 20th century portrait drawing on paper is probably French.  Sadly we have no idea of its maker although we are still searching but it was certainly a highly skilled hand.  It has been brought back to its best with light cleaning and beautiful framing by QED framers.  

There are probably few people alive who remember books written by Violet Needham, most of us read our mother's copies preserved from the 1940s. For me this child is Anastasia from The House of the Paladin - I will try to find a copy for anyone who is interested!
