An enamelled Peking glass Medicine Buddha seated on the lotus throne. This fascinating and unusual little 20th century Buddha, 12.5cm high, has a remarkable serenity and is beautifully modelled in the Tibetan or Nepalese style. Bhaiṣajyaguru (in Sanskrit), the ‘Medicine Buddha’ is usually depicted with a lapis blue coloured body, the archetypal colour and stone of healing, holding a bowl of healing nectars and a medicinal plant or bunch of herbs. The Medicine Buddha meditation practice is found particularly in Tibetan Buddhism.
