Ron Dutton is one of the most celebrated medallists working today. He was born in Nantwich, Cheshire in 1935 andstudied in the department of fine art at the University of Newcastle upon Tyne. He became head of sculpture at Wolverhampton College of Art in1964. Showed at RA; in London Artists at Shrewbury School, 1968; Crane Kalman, 1977; The Medal, Mirror of History, at British Museum, 1979; and at Ina Broerse Gallery, Amsterdam, 1982. Had a solo show at Laing Art Gallery, Newcastle, 1964, later exhibitions including Tettenhall Gallery, Wolverhampton, where he lived, 1982 and 1984. Retrospective Simmons Gallery, 1999. Has work in public and private collections in Britain and abroad and has undertaken many medal commissions, including Victorian Society, 25th anniversary, 1983; and in 1984 Fabian Society and Wolverhampton Art Gallery centenaries.
